With Morvan Bike, Stéphane Morfu Turns His Passion for Cycling into a Profession

After three decades in the construction industry, Stéphane Morfu from Autun made a major career shift by becoming a bicycle shop owner. A natural transition for this cycling expert.

"At 45, it was time to take the plunge," smiles Stéphane Morfu, manager of the Morvan Bike shop. A lifelong cycling enthusiast — "since I was a kid, thanks to my grandmother and mother who were both big fans of the Tour de France" — the native of Autun opened his shop at 51 Avenue Charles-de-Gaulle in mid-April.

From Carpentry to Cycling

More than just a seller of leisure and all-terrain bikes, Stéphane offers short-term rentals, repair services for all brands — whether traditional or electric models — as well as sportswear, nutritional products for athletes, and even posture analysis."It’s a device that takes 10 different measurements to optimize the bike’s adjustments for maximum comfort," he explains.

Before launching his cycle shop, Stéphane Morfu had worked in carpentry since the age of 15. But over time, the physical toll became too much. “I wore myself out — I can’t carry heavy loads anymore.”After a brief stint in social housing as a supervisor, he quickly got back in the saddle, pursuing a career change that “surprised absolutely no one.”

A licensed member of both the local cycling and triathlon clubs, Stéphane is an experienced athlete who knows his products inside and out. Still, far from being scatterbrained or overconfident, he chose to level up with a three-month training course in Voiron, near Grenoble."It wasn’t mandatory, but earning the certified technician-salesperson diploma is a real asset — both for my clients and in the eyes of my suppliers."

In short, he’s a new local shopkeeper who truly goes the distance for his customers.
